Log Sorting System

The purpose of the system is to find the best category of a log based on the log's scanned dimensions (diameter and length) and characteristics (sweep, taper, flare). If there are more categories that meet the log's parameters, the system favors the best quality category. If there are two or more categories with equal priority, the system chooses the first category found with the required parameters. The scanning parameters and log categories are user adjustable.

The system also has an option for generation of detailed reports on production.

Log Cutting Solution

The purpose of the system is to provide individual log scanning and to determine log diameter, length and sweep.

The PLC/PC computer calculates the desired log rotation based on a horns-down orientation and the log breakdown cutting solution based on the log diameter. The graphical representation of the final solution is displayed on a computer interface.

Log Bucking System

The PLC/PC computer uses subroutines to determine log diameter, length and sweep, and to calculate the "best-fit" log bucking solutions to maximize the number of prime-length saw logs while respecting sweep limits to minimize wood wastage.

A computer interface allows the operator to monitor the system operation and the calculated log bucking solutions along with other log information (diameter, length).
